It
was built in 1770 when the water source in Arequipa was
small canals. We can find there twenty big half earthen
jars, (formerly used to store grains, maize or wine)which
served as washing troughs. The water ran through a central
canal with branches to every earthen jar in the bottom
of which there was a plug, removed after laundering and
the water went by an underground canal to the river.
